Why a new blog

The purpose of this blog is for me to share my thoughts on risk management in IT projects.

Most of my career has been spent delivering Trading and Risk Management systems to the front office of various investment banks. Investment Banks have a risk management culture. Pretty much every sentence someone utters contains the word “risk”. Risk is less a focus and more an obsession in the banks. As a result, many project managers in Investment Banks approach IT projects from a risk perspective.

There are many types of risk on an IT project. From my perspective, the dominant one is that of the Business Investor, the “person” who is paying for the software to in order to receive some specified return.

    Hi Chris,

Good to see you blogging and what interesting posts you have been putting up – I’ve enjoyed reading them.

You haven’t get written much about getting people involved in the risk process but I bet you have a lot to say about the subject! My book, co-authored with Ruth Murray-Webster, has just come out through Gower and it’s a short guide to Facilitating Risk Management. I suspect you might like it – let me know what you think!

All the best with your blogging,
    Penny
